HVT was initiated by the Hermanus community to provide a tertiary educational programme to meet the diverse needs of the Overstrand through a variety of academic partnerships.
Our curricula will be tailored to local industries and business requirements after dialogue and collaboration with key stakeholders. Qualified students will be employable locally with a vested interest in the local economy.
We will offer a programme of blended learning, combining both distance and contact educational opportunities. Students will receive support from our academic volunteer tutors.
Members from all sections of the community will be able to live and learn locally.
A request was made by Sparklekids and the young people of potential they work with, for quality tertiary education to be made available locally. When young people with varsity exemptions matriculate, they leave our region to study elsewhere and never return, they are lost to our region and local economy.
HVT firmly believes that Hermanus could be the education hub for the Overberg region, thereby transforming our region through education.
HVT wants to facilitate the creation of access to education for a diverese student demographic. Whether they be school leavers, adults interested in professional development in the evening, or post graduates specialising in research pertaining to our local industries.
HVT is developing its programme in collaboration with various academic stakeholders. These partnerships afford Hermanus Varsity students a tailored academic offering supported by dedicated volunteer tutors sourced from our regions' academic wealth, and strong infrastructural support such as computers and wi-fi facilities.
